“Father of Life” – The Nile River
The Nile River is the longest river in the world. Its length is approximately 6,650 kilometers (4,132 miles). It flows through countries including Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Sudan, and Egypt. Additionally, the catchment areas of countries including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania are also connected to the Nile.
The two main tributaries of the Nile River:
- The White Nile – originates from the Lake Victoria region. It is Africa’s largest lake and the world’s largest tropical lake. Furthermore, it is the world’s second-largest freshwater lake by surface area.
- The Blue Nile – originates from Lake Tana in Ethiopia. It is Ethiopia’s largest lake.
These two tributaries converge in the city of Khartoum.
The Lifeline of Ancient Egypt
- It is said that without the Nile River, the ancient Egyptian civilization could not have developed.
- The annual flooding provided fertile soil for agricultural lands.
- This enabled the growth of agriculture, trade, and settlements.
- The ancient Egyptians revered the Nile as the “Father of Life.”
In summary: The Nile River is a world-renowned river that has played a monumental role in Africa’s history, civilization, agriculture, and economic development.
One must understand the nature of elderly parents and act accordingly.
When a human being reaches old age and lives a long time, as Allah has said, he is turned back to the most debilitated old age. That is, he reaches the weakest stage of life.
When a person reaches old age, even though he once possessed knowledge and wisdom, he returns to a state of weakness like a small child. However, because he previously possessed knowledge and understanding, this state becomes even more difficult for him. This is why we see that those who have reached extreme old age and are brought to this condition cause greater difficulty and trouble for their families than small children. The reason is that they previously were people of knowledge and understanding.
It is for this reason that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sought refuge with Allah from ‘being turned back to the most debilitated old age.’
Disease of Hearts
فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ اللَّهُ مَرَضًا – “In their hearts is a disease, so Allah increased them in disease.”
If a person does not care to treat the disease of his heart, he will be subjected to the punishment of that disease increasing further. For Allah says: “In their hearts is a disease, so Allah increased them in disease.” (Al-Quran 2:10)
There is no doubt that a man’s heart being afflicted with disease is a far greater punishment than losing children, family, or wealth.
Sadaqa
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Seven (people) will be shaded by Allah by His shade on the day of resurrection when there will be no shade except His shade. And of them will be a man who gives in charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given.”
