The Reply Written by Hasan Al-Basri (Rahimahullah) to Umar Ibn Abd Al-Aziz (Rahimahullah)
Caliph Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz (Rahimahullah) asked Hasan al-Basri (Rahimahullah): “Briefly explain to me the state of this world and the Hereafter.”
Hasan al-Basri (Rahimahullah) wrote in reply:
“This world is like a dream; the Hereafter is like wakefulness; and death is the state between the two.
We are living in confusing dreams.
The one who examines himself succeeds;
The one who is negligent about himself loses.
The one who reflects on consequences is saved;
The one who follows his whims goes astray;
The one who is patient and deliberate gains benefit.
The one who fears Allah finds security;
The one who takes lessons sees the truth;
The one who sees the truth understands;
The one who understands gains knowledge;
The one who gains knowledge acts upon it.
So if you err, turn back immediately;
If you regret, abandon that mistake;
If you do not know, ask and learn;
If you get angry, control yourself.”
If You Use Your Organs Correctly..
One of the reasons for increased sustenance (Rizq) is seeking much forgiveness (Isthighfar).
Similarly, one of the reasons for gaining dignified honour is speaking less.
Furthermore, one of the reasons for gaining beauty (attractiveness) is smiling frequently.
So, each day, be generous, be beautiful (cheerful), and be dignified and honourable.
Reflect:
All of these are attained by using just one of your organs correctly.
That is your mouth.
So, how would the one who uses every blessing in his body in the best possible manner be?

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Seven (people) will be shaded by Allah by His Shade on the Day of Resurrection when there will be no shade except His Shade. And of them will be a man who gives in charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given.”
